This is the new version of The Loar LM-500. These are entirely different than any LM-500 mandolins available before May-2011. Previous to this, the LM-500 was made in a separate location than the rest of The Loar line. This is no longer the case. All of The Loar mandolins are now hand carved in The Loar shop.
The Loar LH-500-VS is hand-assembled in The Loar design studios, home of the game-changing LM-600 and LM-700 mandolins. We’ve replaced the original LM-500’s pressed top and back with a hand-carved solid spruce top and hand-carved figured maple back and sides.
The LM-500’s fretboard extension has also been scooped, allowing players to position the pick closer to the neck joint, so they can find the mandolin’s “sweet spot” without fear of the pick hitting against the higher frets.
The LM-500’s aesthetics have been modernized also, including an all-new “Fleur-de-Lys” style headstock inlay for a more contemporary look. A one-piece figured maple neck, bound ebony fretboard, Grover tuning machines and an ebony bridge round out the list of impressive features on this beautiful mandolin.
The Loar is the leader in handcrafted mandolins and guitars inspired by the Golden Age.
