Description

These Majestic tenor banjos are known for their high quality and pleasing sound. Made by the Puntolillo Company of New York (and later Lyndhurst, New Jersey), the Majestic banjo features the archtop tone ring patented by Gaetano F. Puntolillo in 1920 which is known for creating a rich sweet sound with plenty of sustain. This instrument features a 19 fret fingerboard, metal resonator, 19 brackets and original calf-skin head. The gently carved neck is smaller and very hand friendly and appears to be made of Brazilian Rosewood. The resonator looks to be Mahogany and features plenty of high-quality marquetry with brown, red and green highlights (likely of Maple and Pear wood) and there is a matching green and maple colored wood stripe running down the back of the neck. The fingerboard and headstock have attractive M.O.P. inlay typical of the times. The banjo is in good playing condition with a straight neck, low comfortable action and a newly installed set of 2-band planetary tuners. There are some small marks and scratches and minor dulling of metal parts as would be expected of a vintage instument and some dirt/stainiing of the calf-skin head,- all part of the lovely vintage character of this great old banjo. Comes with original hard case in fair but functional condition.
